Common Problems and Effective Solutions for Urban Outdoor Furniture

How do I clean urban outdoor furniture made from composite materials?

I’d treat composite urban outdoor furniture—like WPC, recycled plastic, or composite benches and tables—as sturdy but still worth cleaning gently. Start by brushing off loose dirt, pollen, soot, and grit with a soft-bristle brush or a dry microfiber cloth. Then rinse with a garden hose or a bucket of clean water. For most everyday grime, mix a little mild dish soap or a pH-neutral outdoor cleaner in warm water, scrub with a soft brush or sponge, and rinse thoroughly so no soapy residue is left behind. Avoid high-pressure washers, abrasive pads, wire brushes, bleach, and harsh solvents, because they can dull the surface or damage the composite finish. For sticky spots like gum, use ice to harden it and a plastic scraper—not metal. For mold or mildew, use a diluted white vinegar solution or a manufacturer-approved cleaner, then rinse well. In urban areas, wipe down more often if you see pollution film, and test any new cleaner on a hidden spot first. A quick monthly wash and a rinse after dusty or pollen-heavy days will keep composite furniture looking good without much effort.
