However, resistance is not absolute. In persistently wet or shaded urban environments—like under bridges, near fountains, or in poorly ventilated plazas—even treated furniture can develop surface mildew. Regular cleaning with mild soap, vinegar solutions, or commercial mold removers is essential. Removing fallen leaves and debris, and allowing furniture to dry after rain, further extends mold-free performance.
Overall, well-made urban outdoor furniture can be highly resistant to mildew and mold, but it still requires occasional maintenance. Choosing non-porous materials, protective coatings, and smart drainage design will dramatically reduce the likelihood of fungal problems, keeping public seating safe, clean, and durable for years.
