Common Problems and Effective Solutions for Urban Outdoor Furniture

I'm worried about rust; are the metals used in your urban outdoor furniture treated?

I completely understand your concern about rust. Outdoor furniture faces harsh conditions—rain, humidity, salt air, and temperature swings. The good news: the metals used in our urban outdoor furniture are specifically treated to resist corrosion, and we follow strict industrial standards to ensure long-term durability.

First, let’s talk about the base materials. We primarily use three types of metal:

1. Powder-coated steel – This is our most common choice. The steel is first sandblasted to remove any impurities, then dipped in a zinc-rich primer (hot-dip galvanizing). After that, a polyester powder coating is electrostatically applied and cured at high temperatures. This creates a thick, tough barrier that blocks oxygen and moisture from reaching the steel.

2. Stainless steel (grade 304 or 316) – For coastal areas or high-humidity environments, we recommend grade 316. It contains molybdenum, which makes it highly resistant to chloride-induced corrosion. Even without a coating, 316 stainless steel can withstand salt spray for years.

3. Aluminum with anodized finish – Aluminum naturally forms a protective oxide layer, but we enhance this through anodizing. This electrochemical process thickens the oxide layer, making it non-porous and highly resistant to pitting and rust.

But treatment doesn’t stop at the metal itself. Our manufacturing process includes:

- Pre-treatment washing – All metal parts are cleaned with alkaline and acidic baths to remove oils, dust, and mill scale.

- Zinc-rich epoxy primer – Applied to steel parts before the top coat, this primer sacrifices itself if scratched, protecting the underlying metal.

- UV-stable topcoats – Our final powder coat is formulated with UV inhibitors to prevent fading and chalking, which also slows down micro-cracking that could expose metal.

We also conduct strict quality tests: neutral salt spray tests (ASTM B117) where samples are exposed to a 5% salt fog for over 1,000 hours without rust creep. And we perform impact and scratch tests to ensure the coating stays intact under heavy public use.

Finally, we provide a 10-year anti-rust warranty on all structural metal components. If you ever see rust forming within that period (beyond surface dust), we will repair or replace the unit free of charge.

So yes, you can be confident. Our urban furniture is built not just for looks, but for decades of service in real outdoor conditions. If you need specific recommendations for your city’s climate, just let me know—we can match the metal grade and coating to your local environment.
