1. Corrosion and Rusting of Metal Frames

In polluted environments, moisture combines with industrial gases to form acid rain or acidic dew. On metal furniture—especially iron, steel, or uncoated aluminum—this leads to accelerated oxidation. You may notice rust spots, pitting, and weakened joints within a year, even if the furniture is labeled “weather-resistant.” Powder-coated finishes can chip over time, exposing bare metal to corrosive agents.

2. Fading and Chalking of Plastics and Resins

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is already a culprit for fading, but pollution adds chemical stress. - Use protective covers: Invest in high-quality, waterproof, breathable covers when furniture is not in use. Make sure the bottom is open to allow air circulation and prevent condensation, which can mix with pollutants.

- Elevate from ground level: Acidic soil and splashing rainwater can worsen corrosion. Use rubber pads or deck tiles to keep legs dry and off the ground.
