In standardized tests like the cross-hatch adhesion test (ISO 2409) or pencil hardness test (ASTM D3363), high-quality powder coats typically achieve ratings of 2H to 3H hardness, meaning they resist scratches from common household items better than unpainted surfaces or standard liquid paints. However, no coating is completely scratch-proof—severe impacts from sharp metal edges or abrasive surfaces (e.g., concrete, stone) can still leave marks. For urban environments where furniture may be moved frequently or used in high-traffic areas, manufacturers often add UV stabilizers and extra thickness (60-100 microns) to enhance scratch resistance and prevent underlying corrosion. Proper maintenance—cleaning with soft cloths and avoiding harsh abrasives—can prolong the finish’s integrity.
