A close second is the problem of inadequate maintenance and cleaning. Furniture in public spaces often becomes dirty, stained, or accumulates graffiti, creating an unwelcoming appearance and hygiene concerns. Comfort, or rather the lack thereof, is another major grievance. Many municipally installed benches are intentionally designed with uncomfortable shapes, armrests dividing seats, or slanted surfaces to discourage prolonged sitting or sleeping, which negatively impacts legitimate users seeking rest. Vandalism and damage are persistent problems, with furniture facing breakage, etching, or theft of components. Finally, users often criticize poor design choices, such as materials that become scorching hot in summer or freezing cold in winter, insufficient seating in high-demand areas, and designs that fail to complement the surrounding urban aesthetic.
