Common Problems and Effective Solutions for Urban Outdoor Furniture

How do I fix a wobbly leg on my urban outdoor furniture table?

A wobbly table leg can ruin the comfort and aesthetic of your urban outdoor space. Fortunately, this common issue is often a simple DIY fix. First, identify the cause. Turn the table upside down on a soft surface to inspect. The problem is typically loose fasteners, uneven leg bottoms, or a damaged joint. For loose screws or bolts in metal or plastic furniture, simply tighten them with the appropriate screwdriver or wrench. If the holes are stripped, remove the fastener, apply wood glue or epoxy into the hole, insert a wooden matchstick or plastic wall plug, let it dry, then re-tighten the screw. For wooden furniture with loose joints, disassemble if possible, scrape off old glue, apply fresh wood glue, reassemble, and clamp until dry. If the legs are uneven due to wear or an uneven surface, place the table on a flat floor and use a level to find the offending leg. Sand the bottom of the longer leg slightly with sandpaper, checking frequently until the table sits level. For a quick fix on hard surfaces, use adjustable furniture glides or felt pads of varying thicknesses on the bottom of the shorter leg. Regular maintenance, like checking and tightening fasteners seasonally and storing furniture indoors during harsh weather, can prevent future wobbles. With these straightforward steps, you can quickly restore stability and prolong the life of your favorite outdoor table.
