Discovering graffiti on your powder-coated urban outdoor furniture is frustrating. Fortunately, you can often remove it without damaging the durable finish. Start by identifying the vandalizing material. For fresh spray paint or similar graffiti, immediate action is key. Begin with the gentlest method: use a mild soap and warm water solution with a soft cloth or sponge. Scrub gently. For stubborn marks, isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) or a dedicated graffiti remover formulated for coated metals can be effective. Always test any cleaner on a small, inconspicuous area first. Apply the chosen solvent to a clean cloth and dab (do not rub aggressively) at the graffiti, working from the outside in to prevent spreading. Rinse thoroughly with clean water afterward. For heavy or old graffiti, a specialized citrus-based or biodegradable graffiti remover gel is recommended. Apply it according to the product instructions, allowing it to dwell to break down the paint, then wipe or rinse away. Avoid using abrasive pads, steel wool, or harsh scrapers, as they can scratch the powder coating. Similarly, avoid strong solvents like acetone or paint thinners on powder coat, as they can degrade the finish. For extensive damage, consider using a low-pressure power washer (under 1500 PSI) from a safe distance, as high pressure can strip the coating. After cleaning, dry the furniture completely and consider applying a protective automotive wax or sealant designed for coated metals to help guard against future incidents. With prompt and careful treatment, your powder-coated furniture can be restored to its original appearance.
