In our urban outdoor furniture line, the most ergonomically advanced design is undoubtedly our "Contour Series" public bench. This design was born from extensive biomechanical research and user feedback, specifically crafted to support the human form in relaxed, extended sitting positions common in public spaces.
The key ergonomic feature is its subtly curved seat and backrest. The seat plane has a gentle downward tilt towards the rear, preventing the user from sliding forward. The backrest is not merely vertical; it features a pronounced lumbar support curve that follows the natural S-shape of the spine, reducing pressure on the lower back. The angle between the seat and the backrest is carefully calibrated to approximately 105 degrees, promoting an open hip angle that alleviates strain on the lower back and encourages better posture compared to traditional 90-degree benches.
Furthermore, the design incorporates armrests at just the right height to assist with sitting down and standing up, a critical feature for elderly users or those with mobility considerations. The materials play a role too: the primary seating surface uses thermally modified wood slats, which remain comfortable in both hot and cold weather, mounted on a sturdy, powder-coated aluminum frame for a perfect balance of give and support.
We extended these ergonomic principles to the entire series, including companion chairs and loungers, ensuring visual harmony and consistent comfort across a public plaza or park. The "Contour Series" demonstrates that urban furniture can—and must—go beyond durability and aesthetics to actively promote public well-being through thoughtful, human-centered design.
