First, check the manufacturer's care label if available. Some cushions have removable covers that are machine washable. For most fixed covers, hand cleaning is best.
Start by removing the cushions and brushing off loose dirt and debris with a soft brush. For general cleaning, mix a solution of warm water and mild dish soap or a dedicated upholstery cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals like bleach unless specified for mildew, as they can damage fabrics.
Using a soft-bristled brush or sponge, gently scrub the solution over the entire cushion surface. Pay extra attention to stained or mildewed areas. For mildew, a diluted vinegar solution (one part white vinegar to one part water) can be effective. Apply it, let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then scrub.
