Common Problems and Effective Solutions for Urban Outdoor Furniture

What's the difference between powder-coated and painted outdoor furniture?

When selecting outdoor furniture, the finish is crucial for longevity and appearance. The primary difference lies in the application process and resulting properties. Powder coating is a dry finishing process where electrostatically charged powder is applied to metal and cured under heat, forming a hard, durable, and uniform skin. It is highly resistant to chipping, scratching, fading, and rust. Traditional liquid paint is applied wet and dries or cures into a film. While painting offers more color flexibility and is suitable for various materials like wood and metal, it is generally less durable. Paint is more prone to peeling, cracking, and weather damage over time. For maximum durability and minimal maintenance on metal furniture, powder coating is the superior choice. For wooden furniture or specific aesthetic projects where frequent touch-ups are acceptable, painting remains a viable option.
