Common Problems and Effective Solutions for Urban Outdoor Furniture

How do I get rid of mildew on my outdoor furniture cushions?

Mildew on outdoor cushions is a common but fixable problem. First, take the cushions outside to a well-ventilated area and brush off any loose spores. For a natural cleaning solution, mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. For tougher stains, make a paste with baking soda and a small amount of water. Apply your chosen cleaner generously to the mildewed areas and scrub firmly with a stiff-bristled brush. Allow the solution to sit for 15-30 minutes to penetrate the mildew. Rinse the cushions thoroughly with a garden hose. It is crucial to let the cushions dry completely in direct sunlight, as the sun's UV rays help kill remaining spores. To prevent future mildew growth, store cushions in a dry place when not in use, especially during humid or rainy weather. Using waterproof covers and bringing cushions indoors during prolonged wet periods are highly effective preventive measures. Regular cleaning before storing them for the season will also keep your patio furniture looking fresh and extend the life of your cushions.
