Common Problems and Effective Solutions for Urban Outdoor Furniture

How do I get rid of mildew that's formed on my outdoor furniture cushions?

To effectively remove mildew from outdoor furniture cushions, start by taking them to a well-ventilated area. Brush off any loose spores outdoors. Create a cleaning solution using equal parts white vinegar and water, or a mixture of 1 cup bleach, ¼ cup mild soap, and 1 gallon of water for tougher stains (test on a small area first for colorfastness). Apply the solution generously with a spray bottle or sponge. Scrub the fabric thoroughly with a soft-bristle brush, paying extra attention to stained areas. Rinse completely with a hose or clean water. Allow cushions to dry fully in direct sunlight, which helps kill remaining spores. To prevent future mildew growth, store cushions in a dry place when not in use, use waterproof covers during rainy seasons, and clean them periodically. For persistent mildew, commercial mold removers designed for outdoor fabrics may be necessary. Always check manufacturer care labels before cleaning.
