Common Problems and Effective Solutions for Urban Outdoor Furniture

How do I get rid of rust spots on my outdoor furniture?

Outdoor furniture is exposed to the elements, and rust spots on metal pieces are a common problem. Fortunately, you can often remove them with simple household items. For light surface rust, create a paste from baking soda and water or use white vinegar. Apply the paste or vinegar directly to the rust spots, let it sit for a few hours, and then scrub with a non-metallic brush or scrubbing pad. For tougher rust, a cut lemon dipped in coarse salt can be an effective abrasive. Rinse the area thoroughly with water and dry it completely. For persistent rust, commercial rust removers are a powerful option; always follow the manufacturer's instructions and wear protective gloves. To prevent future rust, consider applying a fresh coat of rust-resistant paint or a protective sealant after cleaning, and use furniture covers when possible.
