Common Problems and Effective Solutions for Urban Outdoor Furniture

My patio gets full sun all day, what outdoor furniture won't get too hot to sit on?

If your patio bakes in the sun all day, sitting on standard furniture can feel like touching a hot skillet. The key to comfort is choosing materials that don't absorb and retain heat. Metal options like aluminum and wrought iron are excellent choices, as they heat up less than others and dissipate heat quickly. Avoid dark-colored metals, however, as they absorb more solar radiation. Synthetic wicker or rattan, made from resin, is another fantastic option. It doesn't conduct heat well, so it remains relatively cool to the touch even after hours of direct sunlight. For a classic look, dense woods like teak and ipe are naturally heat-resistant. Their tight grain and low thermal conductivity mean they won't get scorching hot. Always opt for light-colored cushions made from Sunbrella or similar solution-dyed acrylic fabrics, which are designed to reflect heat and dry quickly. By selecting furniture with these heat-resistant properties, you can create an outdoor oasis that is comfortable and usable, even on the sunniest of days.
