Common Problems and Effective Solutions for Urban Outdoor Furniture

How do I get sap off of my outdoor furniture table?

Discovering tree sap on your outdoor furniture table can be frustrating. This sticky substance is notoriously difficult to remove, but with the right approach, you can restore your table's surface without causing damage.

For fresh sap, begin by hardening it with an ice cube placed in a plastic bag. Once brittle, gently scrape it off using a plastic spatula or credit card. Be careful not to scratch the surface.

For dried or remaining sap, apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol to a clean cloth and dab the affected area. The alcohol will break down the sap without harming most furniture finishes. Alternatively, you can use nail polish remover containing acetone, but test it on a hidden area first as it may damage certain materials.

For a natural solution, create a paste from baking soda and water, or use coconut oil. Apply either substance to the sap, let it sit for several minutes, then wipe clean with a damp cloth.

After sap removal, wash the entire surface with warm soapy water to eliminate any residue. Regular cleaning and applying protective furniture wax can help prevent future sap adhesion.

Always work in a shaded area and wear gloves to protect your hands during the cleaning process.
