Common Problems and Effective Solutions for Urban Outdoor Furniture

Is it okay to put a grill near my wooden outdoor furniture?

Placing a grill near your wooden outdoor furniture is not recommended and poses a significant fire hazard. The intense heat, stray embers, and potential for flare-ups from your grill can easily ignite the wood, leading to a dangerous fire. To ensure safety, always maintain a minimum clearance of at least 10 feet between your grill and any wooden structures or furniture. This includes not just your table and chairs, but also your home's siding, deck railings, and overhanging tree branches. Never operate a grill on a wooden deck without a non-combustible surface, such as a concrete patio or specially designed grill mat, underneath it. For gas grills, regularly check for gas leaks from the hoses or connections, as a leak could direct flames towards nearby combustibles. Even when you think the grill is off, the residual heat from the unit itself can be enough to scorch or damage the wood's finish. A sudden gust of wind can also carry a spark much farther than you might expect. The safest practice is to position your grill in an open, well-ventilated area, far away from anything that can burn. Prioritizing this distance is the most effective way to protect your investment in your outdoor living space and, more importantly, to ensure the safety of your family and home. Always have a fire extinguisher or a connected garden hose readily accessible whenever you are grilling.
